Day 1- Wednesday May 17th 2017

13:40 PM Leadership Boardroom: The future outlook of active and passive investment management- As passive assets continue to rise, what is on the horizon for active managers?

  • Given the success passive funds have had in recent years and the low cost to investors, is the trend in asset flows towards passive investments continuing or could there be a reversal of this trend?
  • Passive vs. active investments in 2017/18- As we enter a rising rate environment are we set to see flows into active investments or will passive investments still provide the safest haven? 
  • How can you now plan and employ smart beta strategies as a hybrid solution to minimize cost while still delivering optimal, objective-driven portfolio investing?
  • With smart beta, what are the implicit (i.e. ESG) and explicit (i.e. volatility) factors that can be used as levers with Equities, Fixed Income (i.e. duration, credit), and other asset classes? 
  • Alternative investments as a source of alpha- How are different buy side houses approaching alternative investments, and how do you manage the operational challenges presented by investing in these asset classes?
